Instructions
Hamburger patties and gravy
- Combine all the ingredients for the hamburgers in a large bowl using a wooden spoon or clean hands. Don't over-mix since that can make the patties tough. Use wet hands to form oblong patties.
- Add olive oil or butter to a large frying pan. Fry over medium-high heat for at least 10 minutes or until the patties have browned. Flip them a few times for even cooking.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the tomato paste and cream. Add this mixture to the pan when the patties are almost done. Stir and let simmer for a few minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Sprinkle with chopped parsley before serving.
Butter-fried green cabbage
- Shred the cabbage finely using a food processor or sharp knife.
- Add butter to a large frying pan.
- Place the pan over medium-high heat and sauté the shredded cabbage for at least 15 minutes or until the cabbage is wilted and golden brown around the edges.
- Stir regularly and lower the heat a little towards the end. Add salt and pepper to taste.
Tip!
Switch it up! These patties pair well with any sautéed vegetable… What do you love? Onions, mushrooms, spinach, Brussels sprouts, asparagus, green beans…

Sure, just be aware that red cabbage has more carbs than green cabbage.
You may have better results if you freeze them while raw. If cooked and frozen, they may be dried out when thawed and heated.
I am sorry for the confusion. There is a notation after the butter and oil in the ingredient list that they are for frying.
1 tbsp olive oil, for frying
2 tbsp butter, for frying
Awesome! So glad you both enjoyed it!
I don't know if I am just overlooking it but what is the serving size. I can't seem to find it on any recipe.
Thank you
Serving size for this one is about 6 oz of hamburgers. For each recipe, you can visually divide your finished product by the number of servings your recipe is set.
That is outstanding!! Way to go!!
You can choose from any of our sauce/dressing recipes!

Sounds great! So glad you enjoyed it!
There are 2 ways around this! You can omit the egg if you're making one serving or you can make 4 servings which will use one whole egg. You can freeze the patties before cooking and they will freeze and thaw well! While the ability to scale recipes to make fewer or more servings is very helpful, it can result in some non-standard measurement amounts.
85/15 is a good choice for this dish. You can see the technique used in the included video.
You should not need to drain the grease as it includes the butter, olive oil, and fat from the meat.
Awesome! So glad to hear that!
Sounds great! Just keep in mind that adding those ingredients would increase the carb count.
Thank you for the awesome tip, Tammy! I have a family of 5 to cook for, but I always cook with leftovers in mind. This will be helpful!
Awesome, Dana! So glad to hear that!
Great! So glad you both enjoyed it!
Thank you for this great inspiration!
The flavor is superb!
All was served with cauliflower-cheese mash as a side dish.
Thank you so much for recipes we can actually use and that taste sooooo good!
Thank you for letting us know how much you enjoyed this recipe!
The standard ground beef for our recipes uses 13% fat, however you can use whichever ratio you prefer!
It may change the flavor a bit, but it should be fine!
Thank you for your feedback!
I'm wondering if you have dairy-free recipes - I have been allergic to dairy my whole life so that's out. Then I got off of Gluten - that went OK - and now I m getting rid of sugar cold turkey.
BUT so many of your recipes use cream etc.
I can tolerate cheese as far as I know - OLD cheese.
But is there a separate listing for dairy free in your lists?
THX
Yes, we have an entire section of dairy-free recipes! Here you go! https://www.dietdoctor.com/low-carb/recipes/dairy-free
I believe cavolo nero (also known as kale) would have fewer carbs than green cabbage. Hope this helps!
