“I am now lean, and eating – or fasting – myself healthy”
Laila suffered from chronic pain and depressions, but the doctors didn’t find anything wrong. She also always had a hard time controlling her weight. She spent three decades searching for a solution and tried different things.
Finally, it seems like she’s found what works for her:
The E-mail
Hi,
I want to tell my story. It started in my early teenage years, when I suddenly went from being an active child to a slightly overweight teenager with a lot of chronic pan and depressions, that nobody understood. I had very little energy and was not able to keep up with daily life.
I have spent 30 years searching and trying different things to find out what could make me well. According to the doctors I was well, because nobody found anything wrong, besides the typical trigger points that fibromyalgia people have. When I was young I took a lot of strong painkillers and sometimes I could be bedbound for days.
In my late 20’s I found the blood-type diet. It recommends meat, poultry, fish, egg and vegetables, but not grains. Very little dairy, but berries and nuts were fine. The blood-type diet as I adopted it, became almost low carb. A liberal low-carb diet. I did well and stayed on the diet for a couple of years and felt fairly well. Then I slipped back to a “normal” diet. It took six months to become sick again. Then I tried low carb, with the blood-type diet no-go foods at the back of my head. Once again I got better, but still something was missing. I was not in pain, but I lacked energy. Then, a year ago I found FODMAP and put it on top of my low-carb diet. My digestive system got better, but not completely. I used lactose-free products and did everything right. Then I got advice from a wise man (Thor Foseid), who said to cut out all dairy products and try intermittent fasting. He also told me about potato starch in cold water and other things. I also take lactic acid bacteria and L-Glutamine every day.
I decided to try fasting and started with a 4-day fast and since then I’ve gone to intermittent fasting, with an eating window of 5–6 hours. Now I quickly noticed a lot more energy, and suddenly I had energy for exercise. I exercise with a PT three times per week, and my pain is practically gone and my mood is great.
My goal when I started was to get well, but a side effect of this is weight loss. I now have a normal BMI for the first time since I was 15–16 years (BMI 22.5). I have lost 31 lbs (14 kg) in 18 months. The first half of my weight loss happened in the first three weeks, and then it stalled for about a year. Regardless of what I did, it did not budge, but with intermittent fasting, I lost the remaining pounds.I am now lean, and eating – or fasting – myself healthy.?
