Doing the impossible: reversing type 2 diabetes and losing 80 pounds

diabetes600

This is supposed to be impossible. Barb Mynott reversed her diabetes after 26 years of insulin dependence! She’s now off all medications. As a nice bonus she’s also lost 80 pounds.

Here’s how she did it (you can probably guess).

The Email

First off – your updated site is absolutely awesome – very professional, yet extremely user friendly! Congrats to all who worked to improve it!

Now, my update. You added my story a while back about ending my 26 year insulin, metformin, and a ton of other medication dependence.

The heaviest I was ever in my life was 264 lbs (120 kg), way back in 1992. From that time I had dropped to circling 200 to 220 (90–100 kg) for many years. I am 5’5″ (165 cm) and at 64 years of age I was morbidly obese.

I discovered Dietdoctor.com in early 2015. I studied it for several months then began following this way of living seriously in April of 2015. I was dedicated and determined and followed the plan of very strict low carb closely, until I would blow up and do something foolish, and begin again. This way of eating is simple, satiating and easy to manage and completely eliminated any need for insulin, metformin and all things diabetic, BUT, and this is a big but, one toe over the line into the carb world and my sugars soar! Thus, I call myself totally in remission, but not cured completely. The physiology of the plan for me is simple and when I added some long-term and short-term intermittent fasting, everything changed drastically!

Current stats, I am still 5’5″ (165 cm) but I now weigh 130 pounds (59 kg). I have eliminated all diabetic and cardiology medications. My blood pressure is a stable 94–97 over 64–68. My sugars are a constantly 4.3–4.9 mmol/l (77–88 mg/dl), quite amazing really considering they were frequently in the 30’s (500’s mg/dl) before!

From 210’ish (95 kg) to 130 lbs (59 kg) in just short of six months! More impressive are completely reset sugars, blood pressure, even my Crohn’s and esophageal diseases are improved. I think the fasting, many 3-day short term fasts and two 21-day total fasts really helped me. I find fasting very easy to do, once you get past the historic teaching of ‘need for food and to eat regularly’ you are, for the most part, fighting only your own mind and incorrect teaching about what our bodies can do! And that, in a nutshell, is my single remaining problem – the psychology of ‘carb addiction’. I can easily and strictly fast for 21 days but on day three of back to ‘normal’ eating I have ‘blown up’ and eaten a bit of junk…read carbs! My goal now is trying to learn the psychology of this system, cut my remaining carb addiction and live happily ever after as a diabetic in total remission with zero cardiac issues and almost completely free of medical challenges regarding diabetes and cardiology!

After 26 years of up to 172 units of Lantus daily with a sliding scale of short acting insulin and 2000 mg of metformin a day and statins and medications – this IS A MIRACLE for me!

If anyone has any insight into why I would fast completely, only water, for 21 days and then eat Scottish Tablet… read ‘fudge’…arrgghhh, on day three post fast. Please write and tell me! I am an older, wiser, retired RN who lives to read and learn – how could I be soooo stupid ? Yet, I have done it, not once but twice in just short of six months! Please email me (themynotts@gmail.com) if you can help… I surely do need it!

I can NEVER, NOT EVER say enough wonderful things about the ever evolving Dietdoctor.com and Dr. Andreas Eenfeldt and his guest Dr. Jason Fung! They LITERALLY saved my life! They can help you too! You just need to listen, learn, read and believe! Once I understood what my body could do to save me, thanks to Jason Fung’s teaching, and followed the lifestyle Andreas Eenfeldt is preaching. EVERYTHING in my life changed – every little thing! Thank you gentlemen, so very much!

Sincerely and with huge thanks !

Barb
