Ingredients

  • 8 oz. 230 g pecans or hazelnuts or almonds
  • 2½ oz. (¾ cup) 70 g (200 ml) unsweetened finely shredded coconut
  • 5 oz. (1 cup) 140 g (240 ml) sunflower seeds
  • 4 tbsp 4 tbsp pumpkin seeds
  • 4 tbsp 4 tbsp sesame seeds
  • 4½ oz. (¾ cup) 130 g (180 ml) flaxseed
  • 1 tbsp 1 tbsp turmeric
  • 1 tbsp 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 2 tsp 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ cup (2 oz.) 120 ml (55 g) almond flour
  • 1 cup 240 ml water
  • 4 tbsp 4 tbsp coconut oil
For serving
  • 10 cups (4 lbs) 2.4 liters (1.8 kg) full fat Greek yogurt (4% fat) or coconut cream
This recipe has been added to the shopping list.

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C). Chop the nuts coarsely in a food processor or with a sharp knife. Mix all ingredients in a bowl.
  2. Spread out on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Roast in the oven for 20 minutes. Be sure to set a timer. Nuts and seeds are heat sensitive and should not get burned.
  3. Remove from the oven and stir the mixture, then return to the oven for about 20 minutes more. Check again. When the granola feels almost dry, turn off the heat and let the granola cool in the residual heat of the cooling oven.
  4. Serve the granola with full-fat Greek yogurt with a tiny bit of vanilla powder and maybe some additional heavy cream. The granola is very nutritious and filling. A third to half a cup (1 dl) will go a long way.

Could I please request that you start using weight measurements instead of liquid measurements for things like seeds, coconut etc? Also dl - what is that? If you us ml for some ingredients, could you use it for all? I find it confusing. Thanks!

    Hi Jayne!

I haven't asked the recipe team but I think they try to avoid using small and large numbers like:
    600 ml (6 dl)
    0,15 dl (15 ml)

Could I please request that you start using weight measurements instead of liquid measurements for things like seeds, coconut etc? Also dl - what is that? If you us ml for some ingredients, could you use it for all? I find it confusing. Thanks!

I was looking at the teams recipes, on the meal plans, and on the instructions for this granola recipe it says 1cup of turmeric. The receipe above says 1 tablesp. Which I presume is the correct one. In fact looking again all the spices are in cups!!

I want to try this but am afraid , with the turmeric, that it will taste of curry

Made it tonight and it's very good. I had to bake it an extra 10 minutes (50 mins total, stirring twice), and then I turned the oven off and let it dehydrate for another couple hours in the oven. It isn't sweet at all. Nothing curry-ish about it. Really good with plain greek yogurt and a little vanilla protein powder as suggested. One batch should last a while!

I made this yesterday. It is really delicious. I also found that it took a long time to get dry. Spreading it over two trays instead of one helps it to get dry. What is the best way to store it? I've put mine in a container in the fridge.

This is a delicious recipe. However, the nutrition information is not helpful because:
    1. The granola serving size is not precise.
    2. The serving includes the yoghurt.
If one if tracking their serving portions, especially on an app, then the precise serving size (e.g. "40 grams) is more helpful. Also, including the yoghurt skews the information because you might not be having it with yoghurt and/or the yoghurt information is not specific to a particular brand.
  8. Sandra
I agree with previous comments that the serving "size" should be listed...with and without the yogurt would be very helpful.
The 1 Tbsp. of turmeric does give it a very nice subtle flavor, not overpowering at all.
I also had to cook mine much longer and then let dry in the oven for a couple hours after I turned it off.
Since beginning this way of eating (and using sooo many of Diet Doctor's recipe's) I've found that buying a scale that will switch between Standard and Metric invaluable!

What is the serving size to reach the 7g of carbs shown in the recipe picture please? Is it a 1/3 cup? (as per the comment in the recipe saying "1/3 cup goes a long way"). Thank you

Just wondering how long this Granola can be kept?

Can I substitute clarified butter or ghee for the coconut oil?
  13. Evelyn
I did not get an answer regarding using clarified butter. I made this recipe using clarified butter instead of coconut oil. It is yummy. I am allergic to eggs plus doctor says I need to be low carb (pre diabetic), so this recipe gives me a healthy, tasty breakfast option. Thank you.

If I substitute the yoghurt for coconut milk, how much should I have per serving?

Did anyone figure out how many carbs per serving and how much is a serving size of this granola?

    Hi Una!

I think we have stopped using deciliters.

One US table spoon is 14.8 ml and one UK table spoon is 15 ml. That's pretty much the same. ;-)

Adviced by users in the Danish lchf groups, I switched from Greek yogurt to “créme fraîche” sometimes
mixed with heavy cream. 38 pct fat is much higher than the 10 percent found in Greek yoghurt, and since you are eating less you get less carps. I understand that “créme fraîche is a European thing, and that it is hard to find the 38 percent version in the US.

Hello, can you clarify at what stage of the process we introduce the water? Is it when mixing all the ingredients before going to the oven?
    Thank you.

Loved this recipe, delicious. Keeps me nice and full until lunch time.

Love this recipe! Delicious and filling and easy to make ! Thanks

Why is there water in it? I’ve seen many keto granola recipes and none call for water.
  24. Sarah brewster Scott
I make a double batch and store in an air tight box and our lasts me and husband about a month
  25. Sylvia
It’s 20 servings and if you add all the solid ingredients I come to 690 grams. So I gather around 35-40 grams is one serving? Assume that the liquid will evaporate in the oven... not sure. I forgot to weigh the final batch after it came out of the oven. Love it though and it stays crispy for a long while.

Hi, how much g carbs has a portion of granola without yogurt? I use sugarfree soya yogurt that has 0g carbs...
    Thanks for reply :)
  27. Valerie
Hi, I have this in the oven right now, but I was curious to know why you add water to it?
    Thanks for a reply!

The water makes the almond flour clump, so it's more granola-like.

Followed this recipe this morning, and it's gorgeous....it has a lovely fresh, light taste.
The turmeric is maybe a tad too much, so I'll lessen it next time....but it's good for you

The only thing with this recipe, is it would be good to see the Nutritional Table....but hey all's good

  30. Tamara
Just took this out the oven, smells soooo good, taste soooo good! Oooooh looooove it. I mistakenly used almond extract instead of vanilla aha, still taste good and the smell ayyyyeeee
  31. Theresa
This recipe is brilliant. Highly recommend. Made exactly as suggested and its perfect. However, I too would like to know the nutritional information per weight and without the yoghurt. A third of a cup is actually its a lot of this. A quarter is probably enough wih=th some creamy yoghurt.
  32. Liz
I buy the paleo bag from ALDI - pretty sure it's the same ingredients, i add extra almonds and then add the rest of the wet ingredients perfect!!
Because I do keto i add cream and little Stevia or honey over the top!!

The recipe says 10 cups of yogurt- is that correct?!

This recipe is written to make 20 servings. For each serving, you can use 1/2 c yogurt.

Is there any way to get carb count without yogurt, as not all yogurt is created equal. Also, I sometimes like my granola with almond milk instead of yogurt. Thank you
  36. brenda
YUMMMMMMM! Thank you! Ate a bit w some heavy cream and one drop of stevia. It was like a cereal. Can totally see using on a salad also. Thumbs up.
  37. Peter
I made this today and it came out well, although I would question the need for the turmeric at all. The vanilla and cinnamon add a great flavour and whilst the turmeric is not so strong after cooking, it was very noticeable while the granola was in the oven. It may be that someone thought the turmeric would add to the golden tone of the mix, but I would question that. I'll try the next batch without it and see how it compares.
  38. Melissa
I made this with vanilla bean paste and omitted the turmeric. Turned out great. Thank you for the recipe.

Have made this a few times. I vary the quantities whenever I make it (we're not flying someone to the moon, just making granola...) and like to change things up. I used pumpkin pie spice instead of cinnamon a couple of times and it is delicious. Also added some stevia to it to make it sweet (sorry, just can't get rid of my sweet tooth!). I eat it with whipping cream (not whipped) which is 35% fat as opposed to yogurt or the “créme fraîche” mentioned by someone previously, plus I usually add a few berries on top. I'm only moderate carb now after going full keto for a few months and losing almost 40 pounds. Now I'm just maintaining...
  40. Trish Riggins
Great recipe! Adding some salt made it even better. I really like that it's made without any sweetener! For family members who aren't on a sugar free eating plan they can add any kind of sweetener to it that they want to.
  41. Mary
Marilyn, I can assure you that this does not taste at all like curry, or anything remotely like it. The turmeric gives it a lovely colour and it is good for reducing inflammation, but if you don't like the idea of it, just leave it out. It will still be wonderful granola

I read through all these comments to see if Diet Doctor would respond on the carb count with & without the Yogurt and have not see any response. The only thing I can think of without any help is to count the carbs in the ingredients and divide by the servings (but then we don't have a definitive serving size for the granola)?

Yes, that would work. You can weigh the total batch that you make and divide by the number of servings you are making to get the specific portion size. For the greek yogurt, choose the option in your local store with the fewest carbs and highest amount of fat as that can vary by location.

Seeing as it says 20 serves. Just split it up 20 portions to find 1 portion. 😀

    Thank you for your recipes.

If your mixed nuts have peanuts or cashews, the net carb count will end up being higher than what we've shown. Make sure and keep an eye on that.

  47. Shanaaz
Thank you Kristin. I will remove the cashews. 😁

The nutrition information for this recipe is very confusing. What is the serving size for the granola. You mention "1 serving" but you don't specify the size of that serving. Also, please provide Total Carbs (not only NET carbs). Those of us that plan diabetic meals need the total carb count in order to balance blood sugar levels.

This recipe as written makes 20 servings. The most accurate way to figure out the serving size is to weigh the total batch and divide by 20 (most kitchen scales have a tare feature where you can eliminate the weight of the bowl). You can access the total carb count by clicking the nutrition+ tab under the list of ingredients and add the fiber and net carbs together.
