Food tastes so much better without all that cardboard-carbs on it! I dont miss the hamburger bun at all! NOM NOM is all I can say! Here at Surfers Paradise ( Australia) , they have started serving "BARE BURGERS" ie hamburgers with out the buns! WE must be gaining in numbers for them to offer it so widely now!

I was doing that in 1976. San Luis Obispo, CA. I was thin back then. Guess I should go back to it.

McDonalds here do a Create your own burger.. and you can have it in a lettuce wrap rather than a bun. It was so yum and means we can still have a family treat and I can enjoy being out too.

Hi, the shopping list for week one doesn't work for the recipes, I can't find any use for the sour cream, and extra ingredients are needed for some recipes, or is it me?

We've been working hard on the shopping list and we'll fix any mistakes as we find them. What extra ingredients are needed for you?

As I have also purchased sour cream and have never used this before, can you please advise what I can use this with while on my two week trial ?

Libby- I feel for you. Our addictions to sugar, salt and artificial ingredients make real food seem bland until you detox the tatesbuds- which can take from a few days to a few weeks. After that you can't believe you ever choked down such sweet salty polluted food. In the meantime, many spices are allowed---I hope you both make it to the other side. The rewards are so great (LIFE!), but getting off the addictions takes sacrifice for sure; I feel for you!

Am starting the low carb challenge today and have just been shopping.
Struggled to find 'shredded cheese' though that wasn't covered with potato starch? I assumed this would be bad and therefore bought normal mature cheddar cheese which I will grate.
Is this right? Or am I over-complicating things?
Am in the UK btw. Thanks!

    Hi Susie

Yes you are right.. its quite hard to find grated cheese that doesn't have anti clagging ingredient so I would just grate my own too ;)

The hardcore sports spot in Fernandina Beach, Northern Florida, has also put "bare burgers" on the menu. When I used to order my burgers without the bun, the waitress would joke and say, "Guess you don't want the fries either. I can give you a side salad." Getting the message all over.
  31. Helena
Why onion powder and garlic powder and not real onion and real garlic?
  32. Stevie
And fresh grated cheddar tastes much better too! The bagged lot tastes more like cardboard to me.
  33. Stevie
Celia....where in Africa? That would make a difference.
  34. Wendy
Really tasty but a helluva lot of protein in one go!

    Very good option.

Wow this was very good. I used grass fed ground beef. I started to add salt to the burger mixture but decided not to and I am glad I did not because it did not need it. It is a lot of meat which I am not used to but very very good. I did not miss the bun at all.

Are sweet potatoes included on this plan? Also what can I substitute for dairy products since I am lactose intolerant. Please help me!! Today is my first day of the challenge!!
  39. Glenda
Day was so good. The burger delicious. I could not find the onion salt so I doubled the garlic salt and this turned out good. The meat portion was way too much for me I could only have one burger. Is this alright.
  40. Carmen
The burger were delicious and I am excited to be starting the challenge. Glenda, I only used a lb. of ground beef and divided it into 4 equal 1/4 lb patties. I only cooked two and had one for dinner and the other will be my lunch tomorrow. :)

This lamb burger is really yum.. but only eating meat couple of days , i felt like vomited and irritated , but later on m use to and lost 1 kg in a week and tried all recipe all are yum..

it means cheese in a block, not already shredded. The shredded kind has added ingredients that keep it from sticking together or something

Got off to a shaky start. In spite of reading the directions seemingly multiple times, I collected all my ingredients in one place (so far so good). I figured while I chop my tomatoes and measure out my spices and grated cheese, I may as well form my hamburger patties first and and get them a grillin' before I mix and blend. Imagine my astonishment when after having everything teaspooned and chopped, I realized the part in the directions about mixing half the cheese and all of the spices into the ground beef before the cooking part. The burgers were done by that time. I immediately took out another helping of ground beef, frozen of course for my inconvenience. I removed the plain cooked burgers and placed in a storage bowl for another time. Again used my microwave defrost to get new beef to cookable tenderness all while everything else was done. Proceeded to follow the directions accurately this time. Wow, that's a lot of cheese for only four patties. End of story, the burgers were awesome, the salsa was terrific, I added a dill pickle, jalapenos and two dabs of mayo on the finished product. Well, Sunday turned out great. Only about about 120lbs. & 10 -12 months to go.

Good luck Chuck. I made this last night, and thought it was fantastic. I made two servings, and ate both. It was not enough for a lunch and a dinner for a guy my size. Two servings uses 3/4 of a lb(350g) of ground beef. That made 2 patty's 3 3/4 in X 3/4 in. Not much food at all. I will just cook another 3/4 of a lb now. Next week I will make 4 servings.

So this recipe is great - and certainly ticked all the boxes with regards to starting the 2-week challenge. Must remember to grate my own cheese rather than use the pre-grated stuff.

One exception, though - I must remember to NEVER put oregano in my burger mix again! Or definitely less of it... not for me at all.

Just want to point out to purchase the higher fat burger to make these (at least 80/20). The leaner ground beef has less flavor and can be dry. I know, I know! Just the opposite of what we've always been taught! You'll be surprised at the difference

How much butter do you need to use for 2 people to fry the burgers?

I think the best advice is, do not skimp on the butter. ;)

I'm wondering if Worcester sauce is on the "can haves" list? It has molasses and sugar. I think it would be in the bottled sauces category that we are to throw out.
