Instructions
Hamburger patties and gravy
- Combine all the ingredients for the hamburgers in a large bowl using a wooden spoon or clean hands. Don't over-mix since that can make the patties tough. Use wet hands to form oblong patties.
- Add olive oil or butter to a large frying pan. Fry over medium-high heat for at least 10 minutes or until the patties have browned. Flip them a few times for even cooking.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the tomato paste and cream. Add this mixture to the pan when the patties are almost done. Stir and let simmer for a few minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Sprinkle with chopped parsley before serving.
Butter-fried green cabbage
- Shred the cabbage finely using a food processor or sharp knife.
- Add butter to a large frying pan.
- Place the pan over medium-high heat and sauté the shredded cabbage for at least 15 minutes or until the cabbage is wilted and golden brown around the edges.
- Stir regularly and lower the heat a little towards the end. Add salt and pepper to taste.
Tip!
Switch it up! These patties pair well with any sautéed vegetable… What do you love? Onions, mushrooms, spinach, Brussels sprouts, asparagus, green beans…

When you refer to ground beef, I guess the UK equivalent would be minced beef, but we have three types, Beef Mince 20% fat, Lean Beef Mince 10-12% Fat or Extra Lean 5% Fat. What would be the correct mince to buy to match the recipe, this would help to keep with the plan and good to know for other ground meat recipes. Also the higher the fat content the cheaper the meat!

Yes it looks odd. It should be 1 oz of butter.
That's up to you! Some people do choose to drain the beef fat first.
You could try coconut cream but that might lend a weird taste to the gravy. Other options like almond milk or coconut milk wouldn't have enough fat/thickness.
I am not sure why that is not scaling correctly. Figure 6oz per serving.
I don't have the information for the individual components of the meal. You can run the ingredients through the USDA database.

I'm an ex-pat Brit in Texas and you're right, ground beef is the same as mince in the UK, and there are also several fat versions here in the States as well, so just choose the highest fat version. Keep Calm and Keto On! :)
Unfortunately not all of the tracking apps have accurate entries for many different foods. Our nutrition information comes from a database that pulls from the USDA database.
! I didn't have feta but I did have Philly Cheese (Creamed Cheese) so added that in little blocks. The only think I did add was some caraway seeds to the cabbage just to give it a little lift! This meal will be a regular on our menu!
You can use any cheese that you like with burgers.
Yes, that should work well.
Thanks for a fantastic recipe. I haven't really eaten feta before, but it was delicious in these burgers. Also, I substituted the cabbage for stir-fried green beans, baby corn, sugar snap peas and mushrooms as we prefer them. The sauce was excellent too - like a super rich tomato soup. Found it a bit sharp when I first tasted it, so added a few drops of tabasco and dried basil, instead of the parsley mentioned. All in all, a yummy recipe!
